One of the things I love about #ds106radio is how it continues to mutate into new forms. The latest wrinkle brought about by yet another Grant Potter inspiration, taking the existing station configuration (one stream running uploaded AutoDJ content, which is overridden by the live stream whenever anyone takes it), and allowing for new streams to run concurrently off of the same server and IP address (off of a different Mount Point).
Part of the result was captured and I share it below. Essentially, DJ Dr. J, AKA @draggin, AKA Jason Toal laid down relatively minimalist beats and soundscapes, perfect for manipulation by the @noiseprofessor AKA Zack Dowell. Zack’s rig is pictured above.
The first seven and a half minutes is Jason, Zack’s stream kicks in then… I mostly followed him from then on, occasionally switching back to Jason just to get a sense of what the source sound was.

With multiple streams, the listener becomes a mixer as well, conceivably able to spin out yet more streams — which is where I see some real potential for future experimentation. Ive not played an actual instrument nor been in a band since i was in grade 6 rockin the clarinet, and even though I had no idea what the end result was sounding like, just knowing i was being remixed and whatever the heck else Zack does with his “pedal array/looper” thingy (see above) it was a powerful, creative experience. You guys make me feel like a musician… actually “with the band”, and I’m grateful to get to share and experiment with you all in this way. Looking forward to the next jam. Next level. 4LIFE
For the record, my track list was as follows. (I only just discovered I could do this so easily from traktor). Also I made extensive use of traktors built in effects; the Beatslicer, Delay, Flanger (pulse or flux i cant remember) as well as the regular looping and crossfading features.

It is really sick, and I was paralleling the tweets imagining the world behind it, so thanks for the audio. And what’s more, the idea of mixing a live stream is wild, and the idea of multiple streams makes me think of multi-user radio that is somehow co-habitating conversations and interpersonal penetrations through the streams. There is something wild about how this thing scales. It scales like an awesome metropolis of culture and sharing.
